    Keeping everyone safe and well must be a top priority for any business, and accident prevention is at the core. This course covers the essential and practical skills you need to know.

    You will learn:

    • why safety, health and wellbeing are so important – and the consequences of not taking them seriously
    • the difference between accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences and what to do if an accident/incident happened
    • that accidents and incidents must be reported to help prevent a recurrence
    • what risk assessment is and different ways to reduce the risk of common slip, trip and fall injuries
    • that COSHH is about the control of potentially harmful substances, recognising the risks and how to avoid harm from them
    • the meaning of the warning symbols (hazard pictograms) on chemicals and what they look like
    • the importance of safety warning signs and what the red, yellow, blue and green signs mean
    • the importance of safe working practices and using equipment as specified to control the risk of potential injury, accident or illness
    • employer and employee responsibilities regarding equipment use - the need for training, checks, maintenance and personal protective clothing
    • the dos and don’ts in the use of electrical equipment, to reduce the risk of shock and fire
    • that manual handling and the good lifting technique involve planning, positioning and good posture
    • how to lift safely to prevent injury
    • how to recognise and manage fatigue in yourself and others
    • how to understand and act upon wellbeing issues
    • influencing and negotiation skills to create a safety culture
